Funding Recipients
The following organizations received funding under the Building a High-Speed Future Funding Program:
"Seniors Training and Small Business Workshops"
The project will deliver relevant and intensive training to seniors and small businesses in Cape Breton Regional Municipality. These critical sectors of the population stand to benefit considerably from access to high speed, and require up-to-date and tailored training to help them make best use of new and existing access to the World Wide Web. capcbco.ca
"Community Communication"
The project includes research and training on the most useful applications for web conferencing, webinars, online meetings, and other web tools. It will also produce innovative, interactive videos, podcasts, and training material for future training and dissemination to other communities, and encourage broadband usage for training and communication information tools. These plans fit well with the Municipality of Victoria County, and their five year strategy, 2009 – 2013. www.vccaps.com
"Community Interactive Mapping"
Creating interactive maps will profile assets and activities occurring within the communities of Inverness County. This tool will enable a stronger understanding of what dynamics (economic, social, environmental, and cultural) exist in the county. It will also allow the municipality to profile assets by sector on an ever-evolving basis, and promote identified assets globally. www.iccns.ca
"Prototyping an Interactive Web Portal for the Nova Scotia Gaelic Community"
Broadband transmission of authentic Nova Scotia Gaelic traditions will generate community connectivity, and help preserve, attract, and enlarge the Gaelic Community of Nova Scotia. Gaelic cultural traditions help to promote the province locally, nationally, and internationally. museum.gov.ns.ca/hv/
"Northumberland Shore Craft Trail Themed Project"
This collaborative project is directed at highlighting and promoting artisans and the landscape that inspires them, from Amherst to Antigonish, following the Northumberland Shore (Sunrise Trail). Ultimately, the goal will be to produce a website with interactive mapping that allows visitors to the area to select experiences from a variety of talented artists. This project provides rural artisans/crafters with an opportunity to develop their business, and the craft theme trail will attract destination tourists to these areas. www.prdc.com
"Community-based Education and Research"
This project will assess computer and technology related educational needs of the public in the counties of Digby, Annapolis, Kings, and the District of West Hants.
It will develop surveys targeted at three sectors associated with the Community Access Program (C@P): the users, C@P site operators/staff, and community partners.
The outcome will serve as a template for other C@P Regional Working Groups to better determine educational needs pertinent to their region. www.communityaccessprogram.com
