Tourist Accommodations Act Update

Bill 151, to repeal the Tourist Accommodations Act, was introduced for first reading on May 2, 2008. On May 26th, the Bill was introduced for second reading. As the spring session of the Legislature has now ended, debate on the Bill was adjourned.

In March when all current tourist accommodation licenses expired, I granted short term licenses which will expire on June 30, 2008. There were no license fees associated with these short term licenses.

In the coming days, you will be receiving a letter from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. The letter will be accompanied by an application that must be completed and returned along with the license fee. The fee is based on the remaining 9 months in the 2008/09 fiscal year.

The fee and completed application will ensure that your brochures are distributed through visitor information centres and will ensure your property listed in the 2009 Doers and Dreamers Travel Guide and Check In and on novascotia.com.
