This program is designed to assist those needing adequate, affordable rental housing. A rental subsidy is paid to private landlords, allowing individuals to pay rent based upon income. This program is funded by the Province of Nova Scotia, and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
Applicants are selected by Housing Authorities, based on a point scoring system. Your income, family size, special needs, and present accommodations are all taken into consideration. Rent supplement units can be located in both privately owned buildings, and continuing housing co-operatives. The units are located throughout Nova Scotia.
Assistance Available
You pay rent based on your adjusted household income. The difference between what you pay, and the market rent, is paid to your landlord by the federal and provincial governments.
*Non-profit groups and ILM Co-ops select their own tenants - eligibility is verified by Housing Authorities who also calculate housing charge.
