Affordable Housing Projects
Access to affordable housing is essential to the health and well-being of Nova Scotia’s communities.
That is why in the period between 2002 and 2012 the Province of Nova Scotia and its partners will be investing over $196 million dollars in affordable housing.

This investment will accomplish four major goals:
- provide access to a wide choice of quality affordable housing for low-income families, seniors and persons with disabilities
- provide a positive contribution to the economy by creating jobs and strengthening local economics
- increase the supply of affordable housing and incorporate design features to improve living standards
- preserve existing social housing dwellings and reduce energy costs.
To date more than 1,400 affordable housing units have been created, preserved or are being constructed.
As of March 31, 2009:
- 610 new rental units are occupied
- 312 new rental units are under construction or being repaired
- 523 units have been upgraded or repaired
- 41 new homes have been created
