Provincial Housing Emergency Repair Program
This program provides assistance to low income homeowners who cannot afford to carry out emergency repairs on their homes. Funding is provided by the Province of Nova Scotia.
A grant up to $5,000 is provided for labour and materials and taxes. The grant does not have to be repaid.
Eligibility
- You must own and live in the single family home you wish to renovate.
- Your household income must be below established ceilings, based on household size and area (Household Income Limits - HILS).
- Repairs shall be related to the housing unit and shall be permanently installed. Primary consideration shall be given to repairs related to health and safety standards, i.e. wiring, roofs, septic tanks, wells.

You must have owned your home for at least one year.
Repairs for cosmetic purposes are not permitted.
