Children in Care

When some children are unable to remain in their own homes on a temporary or long term basis, they enter the care and custody of a Children's Aid Society, a Family and Children's Services agency or a district office of the Department of Community Services.

This occurs only after every effort has been made to resolve issues in the family, and extensive services have been offered to remedy the situation. This  may include counseling and family support.

Children in care and custody are supported by the Department of Community Services through maintenance payments for routine care and additional needs because of medical or emotional problems.
