You don’t need to travel far to enjoy rich language diversity in Nova Scotia. Accessing services in your mother tongue is now getting easier for business owners. A number of provincial government departments have taken steps to improve French services.
Bilingual customer service representatives now work in the Registry of Motor Vehicle Services in Dartmouth and Yarmouth, and a bilingual Inquiries Officer provides service at the Labour Standards office.
A French component was part of the consultations on the Labour Standards Code regarding rest breaks and the minimum wage. Environment and Labour is making it the norm to publish information affecting large groups in French and English. That includes material on health, wellness, safety and security.
In Meteghan, Fisheries and Aquaculture is working with Saint Mary’s Bay Resource Centre to promote delivery of French service to the fishing industry.
