More “amusing” rides

PhotoAmusement rides are only fun when they’re safe. The Nova Scotia government has created new regulations that increase safety standards for amusement devices and align our standards with those of New Brunswick. These changes to regulations, accompanied by new training, have made the rides in Nova Scotia even safer and the rules easier to follow.

Nova Scotia Environment and Labour (NSEL) and the Nova Scotia Community College created a program to train qualified mechanics in properly maintaining all amusement devices. The training helps the industry comply with the new regulations, and more than 40 mechanics were trained in the first year of the program. As an additional benefit to the industry’s competitiveness, the higher safety standards resulted in reduced insurance premiums for amusement device owners. This approach of regulation and training is proving so successful that other provinces are considering it as a model.
