The Challenge
The Better Regulation Initiative aims to maintain the benefits of regulation while decreasing the costs to business. Specifically, Better Regulation will:
- Improve the competitive position of Nova Scotia business
- Improve protection for the public and the environment
Both business and the public recognize the importance of regulation in protecting our great quality of life. Nova Scotians have told us they don’t want deregulation, but they do want improved regulation.
Through Better Regulation, we’ll make lasting improvements to the entire regulatory cycle - starting with considering whether a regulation is the right tool to change behaviour. Government employees are making improvements to how things are done and creating new regulatory tools. These changes will help ensure regulations are:
- Carefully considered in consultation with business and the public
- Well designed and effective
- Clearly communicated and managed
- Consistently enforced
