The Better Regulation Initiative is setting the foundation for continuous improvement in when and how we regulate. Part of that foundation is a new policy on regulatory management. The policy will help establish a new way of regulating that mitigates the impact on the marketplace and maximizes the benefits to citizens. Ultimately, the policy will lead to regulation that:
In 2008, Better Regulation began rolling out the Regulatory Management Policy, its guiding principles and new training across the provincial government. Together, all of this work will result in:

It's not enough to create - or even communicate - a new policy. As with any new regulation, the regulator has a responsibility to ensure those affected are aware and understand what it means to them. That's why the policy is supported by training and a plain language guide with more information on implementing it.
As of March 2009, all departments have implemented the Policy. Six departments have implemented a full regulatory management model and one department has made the prioritizing of regulatory needs part of the business planning process, taking into account what is most important and the best use of resources.
