The Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs Recognition Program
What is it?
The Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs (ANSA) Recognition Program celebrates individuals and groups who have made positive contributions to the African Nova Scotian community in the areas of education, public service, business service, and community service.
Who qualifies?
Individual – Anyone of African descent who fits the achievement criteria is eligible for recognition.
Groups – Groups founded by, staffed by, or that specifically service African Nova Scotians are eligible for recognition.
How does it work?
Applicants are either formally or informally recognized depending on the type of achievement. All applicants receive a letter and certificate from the Minister of African Nova Scotian Affairs and a token of appreciation.

How do I submit a name?
You can submit names to the Recognition Program in two ways: online or by mail. Remember to give specific details about the individual or group and remember to mail a photocopied *proof of achievement to ANSA.

*Proof of achievement – Acceptance letter, diploma, newspaper article, signed endorsement letter, etc.
When will I hear back?
Please allow 4–6 weeks for your request to be processed.
GuidelinesRecognition packages will be honoured under ANSA’s discretion. Not all requests for recognition can/will be granted. To make sure your request is reviewed it must:
If an individual or group receives more than one request for recognition, only one recognition package will be sent. Long service awards for both business and community service are accepted starting at the 10-year mark, and are honoured at 10-year intervals — 10, 20, 30 or 12, 22, 32, for example. |
