Farm Safety Day Camp
In 1998, the Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia (WINS) started promoting farm health and safety to children by holding Farm Safety Day Camps across the province of Nova Scotia. Through a controlled environment, children view different types of farm machinery and participate in workshops involving first responders information, sun safety and other safety awareness activities.

All-day camps end with the child receiving a ‘take home' kit and a certificate of participation. The kit encourages the children to review what they had learned with their parents and siblings at home.
WINS is very pleased with the results of the day camps. They feel that they have helped children learn more about farm safety and hope that they will learn more skills as they grow up and develop more responsibilities on the farm.

WINS has designed a Farm Safety Day Camp Manual. The manual is designed to assist others to organize their efforts in educating children on the importance of farm safety by holding a day camp.
Copies of the Farm Safety Day Camp Manual are available through the Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia, Box 550, Truro, NS B2N 5E3 or call (902) 893-6520 or fax (902) 893-6393. Cost of the manual is $7.00 Cdn., postage included.
