Achievements and Awards

The Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia has accomplished the following achievements:

Special Donations

2008
  • Donations collected for the FWIC project Into the North Phase Two (Rosie’s Group) in Hopedale Labrador.
  • Buy Local Phase Two survey results are released
  • Donations are collected for the ACWW Canada Area Project (DMI – Tsunami Fund)
2007
  • Donations collected for the International Peace Garden picnic shelters
2006
  • Buy Local Phase One survey results are released
  • Donations for ACWW project in Tanzania; this project assists women to learn about nutrition and how to grow a sustainable food supply.
  • Received Agricultural Awareness Award for the initiative of the Buy Local Challenge
2005
  • One hundred and thirty five quilts and blankets donated to the Salvation Army for the WINS Quilts for the Homeless Project.
  • Second Donation of Adelaide Hoodless Roses to the NSAC Alumni Gardens.
  • Twenty one boxes of baby and child care items and funds for the FWIC Project, Into the North.
  • Donations collected for the ACWW Tsunami Fund
  • Donations collected for the Hurricane Katrina Fund
2004
  • Donation of a Camperdown Elm to the NSAC Alumni Gardens to help replace trees lost during Hurricane Juan.
  • 340 finger puppets and 82 baby care items donated to the IWK Health Centre and local hospitals. 74 cast toe socks, 31 turbans for female Cancer patients, and 8 knitted bears for Alzheimer patients were also donated to various hospitals and care centres.
2003
  • Donations raised to assist the town of Badger, Newfoundland.
  • Members donated more than $1000 to the IWK Telethon and collected funds for the Badger Relief Fund.
2002
  • Donated Adelaide Hoodless Rose bushes to the NSAC Alumni Gardens.
  • One hundred and one hand-crafted "Cuddle Bears" donated to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia.
2001
  • Created a quilted wall hanging for the IWK Health Centre that represents health-related projects of WINS.
2000
  • Members donated hundreds of cloth turbans to the Nova Scotia branch of the Canadian Cancer Society for patients receiving treatment.
1999
  • Members donated 840 handcrafted comfort pillows and 481 cloth envelope covers to the Canadian Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery Program.
1998
  • Members donated 258 handcrafted ‘cuddle bears' to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer's Society.
  • Members donated $2592.50 to the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund.
1997
  • Members donated thousands of articles for babies and mothers to the IWK-Grace Children's Hospital and to other hospitals around the province. This project continues to date.
  • Members donated over 7000 handcrafted finger puppets to the IWK-Grace Children's Hospital and to other hospitals around the province. This project continues to date.
