Agency, Board or Commission Weed Control Advisory Committee
1 Statute Weed Control Act
2 Purpose Advises the Minister on all matters related to administration of the Act.
3 Functions Advisory function in relation to noxious weed control in NS.
4 Composition Members appointed by the Minister. One member must be a representative of the NS Federation of Agriculture.
5 Formal Qualifications None
6 Work & Experience Requirements Experience that includes: proven ability to identify and distinguish weeds; experience with weed control practices; and knowledge of the affects of invasive plants on agriculture.
7 Skills Required Ability to identify and distinguish weeds and a basic knowledge of weed control practices.

Should have: ability to judge fairly; make decisions; high degree of integrity; and ability to handle confidential information.

Chair position requires: proven leadership abilities; proven experience in chairing organizations; and good communications skills

8 Statutory Nomination Requirements One member must be nominated by the NS Federation of Agriculture.
9 Traditional Nomination Requirements Historically, the Minister has appointed 1 or 2 members recommended by the NS Federation of Agriculture, representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, 1 member from the NS Agricultural College and 1 representative of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
10 Remuneration Expenses/day
11 Anticipated Time Commitments One meeting per year or as required.
