Purpose |
Govern, control and regulate harness racing in the
Maritimes. |

Regulates the harness racing industry and establishes
uniform rules for the industry in the Maritimes. |

Composition |
Consists of 6 members, 2 are nominated by the Governor
in Council on the recommendation of the Minister. The
actual appointment is by the Council of Atlantic Premiers. |

Work & Experience Requirements |
Should have: knowledge of the industry; awareness of
current issues in industry; ability to understand regulations
and regulatory procedures. Should not have direct
involvement in the industry. |

Skills Required |
Should have: knowledge of the industry; ability to judge
fairly; proven ability to make decisions; high degree of
integrity; and ability to handle confidential information.
Chair position requires: proven leadership abilities; proven
experience in chairing organizations; good communication
skills. |

Statutory Nomination Requirements |
2 members are nominated by the Governor in Council on
the recommendation of the Minister. The actual
appointment is by the Council of Maritime Premiers. |

Traditional Nomination Requirements |
Historically, 1 member represents mainland Nova Scotia
and 1 member represents Cape Breton. |

Chair: $200/meeting + expenses
Member: $150/meeting + expenses |
