Agency, Board or Commission Livestock Health Services Board
1 Statute Livestock Health Services Act
2 Purpose Review livestock health services policies and advise the Minister on matters related to livestock health services and dead stock issues from a disease perspective.
3 Functions Review the functioning of livestock health services, prepare an annual report for the Minister, approve forms and such other matters as are related to its advisory role.
4 Composition 7 members: 3 are livestock owners nominated by the NS Federation of Agriculture, 2 veterinarians nominated by the NS Veterinary Medical Association, and 2 public servants.
5 Formal Qualifications 3 members must be livestock owners nominated by the NS Federation of Agriculture, 2 must be veterinarians nominated by the NS Veterinary Medical Association
6 Work & Experience Requirements Should have: knowledge of the livestock health services program; knowledge of industry and farm animal veterinary needs/issues. Affiliation with local and/or provincial livestock organizations would be an asset.
7 Skills Required Should have: ability to judge fairly; proven ability to make decisions; high degree of integrity; and ability to handle confidential information.

Chair position requires: proven leadership abilities; proven experience in chairing organizations; good communication skills

Statutory Nomination Requirements 3 members must be livestock owners and registered producers nominated by the NSFA

2 must be veterinarians nominated by the NS Veterinary Medical Association

9 Traditional Nomination Requirements None
10 Remuneration Chair: $125/meeting + expenses
Veterinary Members: $100/meeting + expenses
Livestock Industry
Representatives: $75/meeting + expenses
11 Anticipated Time Commitments 3-4 meetings per year depending on issues to be resolved. Meetings tend to be held in Truro so industry representatives are required to travel.
12 Other Notes Members may serve for a maximum term of 5 years and non public service members may be serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.

The Chair and Secretary are appointed by the Board from the membership.
