Mission and Mandate

To enhance knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the agriculture and Agri-food industry by all Nova Scotians by taking a leadership role in development and implementation of agricultural awareness initiatives.

Key Awareness Messages

All Nova Scotia Agricultural Awareness Committee initiatives are to address at least one of these four messages.

  1. Buy Local: Nova Scotia agriculture produces food for Nova Scotian families.
  2. Food Safety and Quality: Nova Scotia agriculture is committed to the production of safe, nutritious food.
  3. Environmental Sustainability: Partnering to develop a productive and sustainable Nova Scotia agri-food sector.
  4. Innovation and Technology: Creating a better understanding and appreciation of opportunities through research, new technologies and investments in Nova Scotia agriculture.

Target audiences

  1. General public and consumers
  2. Agriculture in the classroom programs for students, teachers and education officials.

Goals of Awareness Committee

  • To pursue funding through internal and external sources.
  • To develop and evaluate initiatives and resources to support the key messages.
  • To identify and develop partnership opportunities.
  • To facilitate communication and exchange of information with agricultural partners.
  • To encourage media participation in awareness of agricultural activities.
  • To cooperate with regional and national partners in agricultural programs and services.
  • Increase and maintain industry support.
