The Canada-Nova Scotia Agreement on French-language Services

Increasing French-language Services across Government
Part of the role of Acadian Affairs is to help ensure that the provincial government has resources to increase its capacity to offer services in the French language. These resources may include everything from providing French-language training for public servants to providing translation services to departments who do not yet have their own translation resources.

Much of this is made possible by the federal/provincial agreement entitled the Canada-Nova Scotia Agreement on French-language Services. The signing of a new 5 year agreement with Canadian Heritage has provided the province with financial resources to be used to implement changes to increase provincial government services in the French language. The Office of Acadian Affairs is responsible for this agreement on behalf of the province of Nova Scotia and consults with departments and offices across government in the development of a multi-year strategy.

The Canada Nova Scotia Agreement allows approved projects to obtain up to 50% of eligible expenses through the province. The management of the Agreement requires a commitment on behalf of both the province and the federal government. This means that projects are funded through a matching of funds.
