Treaty Day, (October 1st) marks the beginning of Mi'kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia as proclaimed in 1993 by then Premier John Savage and Mi'kmaq Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy.
Its purpose is to promote public awareness about the Mi'kmaw culture and heritage for all citizens of Nova Scotia. A poster is produced and numerous events are organized throughout the month in recognition of Mi'kmaq History Month.

Prismatic showcases and celebrates the work of Canada's Aboriginal and culturally diverse artists.
Among the Aboriginal artists participating in this event, is Mi'kmaq artist, Ursula A. Johnson, who will be doing a public performance, Elmiet, on Saturday, October 16, as part of Nocturne. Ursula will be following up the performance with an Aritst's Talk. There will also be a theatre performance by Toronto's Native Earth Performing Arts, Almighty Voice and His Wife - October 12 at the Sir James Dunn Theatre in the Dalhousie Arts Centre.
Prismatic also features a 3-day national conference: Canadian/Arts: Charting the Self-determination of Aboriginal and Culturally Diverse Artists in Canada through Exploring, Understanding and Re-Imagining, which we (Onelight Theatre) are hosting with Ontario's Debajehmujig Theatre. Artists, government and non-government funders, and representatives from key arts institutions from across Canada will be attending the conference - October 15-17.
