Our Facilities

Less then an hour's drive of metropolitan Halifax, the Natural Resources Education Center is nestled in the beautiful Musquodoboit Valley.

Our outdoor programs foster a sense of stewardship and sustainable development of our natural resources. NREC is the first educational facility of its kind in Atlantic Canada.

We offer the following:

  • two spacious classrooms
  • a Boardroom/Library (for additional meeting space)
  • an 80 hectare woodlot
  • year-round curriculum-based programs, both on-site and off-site

Many curriculum-based programs for school and community groups. As well, a number of special events are held throughout the year.

The 80 hectare woodland provides opportunities for field tours, exhibits and demonstrations. Self-guided interpretive trails can be used for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or nature hikes. One of the wood-chip trails is seasonally wheelchair accessible; please give us advance notice if one of your students has a wheelchair.
