- Provides geological expertise and guidance to mineral explorationists and the mining industry in Nova Scotia
- Documents, describes and interprets metallic mineral resources of Nova Scotia through the study of metallic mineral deposits and their geological settings
- Documents, describes and interprets the nature, settings and origin of coal and energy resources
- Identifies industrial mineral resources and works with industry to encourage new and existing industrial development
- Maintains the Province's computerized inventory of mineral deposits
- Participates in Exploration Promotion
