Abstract
The Mineral Occurrence Query Program provides clients with user-friendly,
menu-driven access to the Mineral Occurrence Database. It is written in FoxPro®
computer language and extracts from FoxPro® all components that are necessary
to carry out the particular operations requested by the program. The Mineral
Occurrence Query Program is for public distribution and, once installed, allows
clients easy access to the database for search, query and printing of information only. This public version will not allow data entry nor editing of existing database records.

Downloading and Installation Instructions for the Mineral Occurrence Query
Program
To download and install the Mineral Occurrence Query Program:
- Create a subdirectory on your c:\
drive called "moqp." This will
be a temporary area for extracting and installing the program.
- Download the dp001a_moqp21.exe program
to c:\moqp.
- Double-click on c:\moqp\dp001a_moqp21.exe
or RUN the c:\moqp\dp001a_moqp21.exe
program. This will extract all the files and the
setup.exe program required to install
the query program.
- Double-click or RUN c:\moqp\setup.exe
to start the installation.
- The setup program will prompt you for the installation
directory. We strongly recommend that you select the default
c:\metallic by clicking Continue. If
you do change the drive, the directory name CAN
NOT be changed and MUST BE NAMED METALLIC.
- A program Icon labelled Mineral Occurrence Database
will be created in the Main Windows Group of your
Program Manager for Windows 3.1 machines. For Windows 95
and Windows NT machines, a Main Folder will be created with
the icon installed in it. If you wish to move the
Mineral Occurrence Database icon to another Windows
Group, feel free to do so; simply grab the icon with the
mouse and drag it to the Windows Group of your choice.
The User's Manual for the Mineral Occurrence Query
Program is included with the program and can be found
under c:\moqp\manual.wpd. It is a WordPerfect
6.1 document. You may
also download the manual separately now (dp001a_manual.wpd).
After the program is installed you can get rid of the
c:\moqp
directory, but if you want to keep the User's Manual
(c:\moqp\manual.wpd)
move it somewhere else.
Note:
Some users of Version 2 of the Query Program have reported they receive a "Divide by Zero"
error message on startup after which the program terminates and will not run. This is referred to as
a "fast computer error" and is the result the inability of FoxPro Version 2.6a, the software from which
the Query Program was developed, being unable to run on some modern computers (computers with processors
above 333 MHz). A patch provided by Microsoft Corporation has been applied to the Mineral Occurrence
Query Program and this forms the basis for the upgrade to Version 2.1. No other changes have been made
and Version 2.1 operates in the same way as Version 2. Users of Version 2 of the Query Program who are
not experiencing the startup error need not replace it with Version 2.1.
Note:
In some test installations, a System Error ... "Can Not Read Drive _ " will
come up, just hit "Cancel".
Note:
If a message regarding a change to the config.sys file comes up, just hit "OK".
